Guild FAQ
This FAQ has been designed to provide an understanding into what Apocalypse is and how the guild operates. It explains everything of what the guild expects of its guild members when communicating with one another and others, when looting, when raiding. When was Apocalypse founded?
Apocalypse was founded in October, 2005.
What is the guild's focus?
We have a strong focus on endgame raids. We encourage our members to get keyed for high level instances, and we are not currently accepting new members that do not have access to certain instances.
Will Apocalypse move to another server in the event of an open transfer?
No. Unless pie is somehow involved.
Expectations:
Each of us join a guild with our own preconceived expectations. This can lead to being unhappy with the guild because it is not what you thought it would be.
We are hopping you are here of the long haul. If you are just parking your alt here until you get it to 60, then planning to move it to your mains guild. Please don’t. This is taking advantage of the committed members of this guild. And its rude. Please be here to be part of this guild.
This is a raiding guild. It’s focus is to improve our ability to be successful in raids. This means we place a greater infuses on end game content and level 60 characters. If you joined just to get the level 60 characters to power level your character, you will likely be disappointed. This is not to give you the impression that you will not get help from others, it’s just to help you under stand that other people have other things they are doing. They will not always be willing to drop it for your needs.
Think of it this way. When a 60 logs on , he/she is getting on to play their game, they usually have something they want to do while in the game. So when you get on and ask for help, there may be no one that is willing to stop what they are doing to help you with what you want to do. Don’t take this as any thing against you. Also there will be a lot of times that most of the 60s are in a raid and cannot help even if they are willing to.
A little understanding on your part will go a long way. Come in with an open mind and find out how great this guild is.
Raid Expectations:
End Game Raiding is NOT just a large instance run. It does not run like the lower instances you are use to. To be successful the raid must be coordinated. And you MUST follow instructions.
Each raid instance has its own needs. As such, each raid group has a specific mix of classes that will improve the chance for success. So when a raid is put together, there are only a limited number of slots for your class. Don’t take it personally if the raid has enough of your class. It is not an attack against you, it is not personal. Not everyone will be able to go on every raid.
Most of the mobs in the end game instances have unique tactics required to defeat them. You may not get to fight them the way you want to. You will be given instructions on what you have to do. Follow them. If the instructions are not followed, you could cause the group to wipe. And you will be less likely to get invited to the next raid if you get 39 other guild members killed. Raiding is not a contest to see who can do the most DPS. It is a team effort and not everyone can be the quarterback. Our DKP system found on the website, is not based on damage done. It is based on the success of the raid. So all players are successful or none are.
We use a mod called CT Raid Assist. There is a link to it on our website. Get it and install it. If you do not know how to load a Mod, just ask in game and we will be glad to help you. This Mod is REQUIRED. You may not go on raids without it. It is a valued tool in the raids.
We also use a in game calender mod to sign up for raids. Get this mod. Raid slots go to the players that signed up first. But don’t sign up if you are not going to be there. There is a cost in DPK if you sign up and don’t show.
Our guild is made up of people from many different time zones. Raids are scheduled to the majority of the guild. We under stand that not all players will be able to attend at these times. If there are no raids scheduled when you play it is unlikely that the raids will be adjusted to meet you time needs. We set them based on the majority of the guild. We can not meat everyone’s needs. If you are one of the players that have a schedule that prevents you from attending most of the raids, you can contact others in the guild that play at the same time you do and if there are enough of you set up your own raid. However any DPK earned on such raids must be cleared through the Guild Master before hand.
Looting:
Don’t be a ninja. Nobody likes it when someone else ninjas something. So don’t do it. If you gain a reputation as a ninja, no one will group with you. If you do it often you my find yourself out of the guild. Even if you are not doing the ninja form other guild members, it can cost you. If you ninja from non guild members and harm the guilds name, you may be booted for it
What! You don’t know what a ninja is? A ninja is someone that takes an item that they are not entitled to have. Usually this means rolling “Need” on something your character cant use. Or some other breach of loot rules
There are different loot rules for different situations. Know the situation and the correct loot rules. When in doubt, ask.
Basic rule definitions apply to all situations.
Bind On Equip (BOE). This means the item only binds when it is equipped by a character. On this type of item if you make a mistake, it can be re-rolled for. You will not be labeled a ninja as long as you admit the mistake.
Bind On Pickup (BOP). If you pick this item up, roll Need, or roll Greed, the item is bound to that character and cannot be passed to another. If you roll need or greed on this item a warning window will popup on your screen telling you that it is BOP. Be certain that you should be rolling on it before clicking “yes”. Everyone knows that you got a warning, so claiming a mistake is not going to go over well. Doing this too often will get you labeled a ninja.
Pass. Passing will never get you labeled a ninja. It will also never get you any items. Items that are class specific and often items that are BOP will be passed on. Then the players of the appropriate class will roll for it
Need. This is the most commonly miss used or miss under stood call. It is also the choice that will get you called a ninja if you miss use it. You only need an item if your character, that you are playing, at the time the item drops can use it. It is not a need if one of your other characters could use it. It must be something that is better then what you have already. Even if you do need the money that the item will bring, you do not need the item. Whenever needing an item, let your group know you wish to need it before you do. This will help reduce arguments and ninja calling. If there is a dispute over an item all should pass. Then talk it over.
Greed. You do not need the item, but you would like to have it. This is greed. It does not mater what you want to do with the item. You can send it to another character or sell it, or disenchant it. Greed means your free to do what you want to with it.
Loot rules for a Pick Up Group (raid and non-raid) Greed every thing unless it is an upgrade for you. You should not roll need on any item that you are too low to use unless the rest of the party is ok with it, or no one else needs it. Always let your group know you wish to need it before you need an item. The group may set different rules for BOP items.
Loot rules for an All Guild Group (non-raid) Greed most items, unless they are an upgrade for you. You may roll need on items that you are with in two levels of using. Exceptions for this are BOP items and Class Specific BOE items. Always Pass on BOP items unless they are an upgrade for you. If no one in the group can use the Class Specific BOE item, the item should be sent to the guild bank. It can then be distributed to the correct character that can use it. Always let your group know you wish to need it before you need an item.
Loot rules for a Raid, all guild. Greed most items, unless they are an upgrade for you. You may roll need on items that you are with in two levels of using. For class specific items, the raid leader will determine which classes may role on each item. If no one in the group can use the class specific BOE item, the item will be sent to the guild bank. Master looter will be used on bosses. Some items are saved for the needs of the guild and not rolled on. Resource nodes should be rolled on. Some resources will be required to be sent to the guild bank.
If you roll need on an item, you should equip it right away. This way others around you see that you have used it.
Communications and Manners:
Although the game has it’s chat channels and mail systems, these are not the only ways to communicate with fellow guildies. We have Ventrelo. This is a voice over internet prodical program. It allows us to talk to each other. Even if you don’t want to talk to others, get it. You can listen in and here all of the info being discussed during a raid. If you do (and you should) use vent, use a headset / microphone combo, so the mic will not pick up the sounds from your computer.
No matter how you choose to communicate, do it with respect to your fellow guild members. We have many younger players. Please do not use profanity. If you use profanity on Ventrilo you may get you kicked. If you repeatedly use it, you will be banned from using vent. If you can’t control your language, you may be kicked out of the guild.
Certain topics should not be discussed in the game wether you are in guild chat or in vent. Politics and religion are two of the big taboo subjects. Also lots of technical talk about computers is frowned on. If you want to talk about an “out of game subject” and others want to also, simply switch to a privet channel and talk all you wish.
If a discussion gets too heated, you will be asked to drop it. If you can’t drop it, you may be kicked from vent.
Name calling will not be tolerated in the guild. Get along or get out.
This is not to say we don’t banter with each other, but not every one will take it as such. So be aware and be polite.
Getting and Giving Help:
You are one flower in the field of flowers. When you ask for help does any one notice you? Yes if you’re the lone rose in a field of daises.
The best way I know to get help is to give it. When some one needs help and you can, do it. Then when you need help they will be more willing to help you.
Don’t wine for help. If you asked for help and no one responded to you. Don’t start complaining about it. You got your answer, no one is able to help you at that moment. People won’t tell you no. They will simply not answer you.
There are many ways to get help in this game. How you ask for the help you need , will affect wether you get it or not.
Start by getting Ventrilo, and get known. People are more willing to help people they know. If you are just a name that pops up from time to time in guild chat, you are less likely to get responses to your requests for help. When I sed get known, I don’t mean get known as a winy problem child. This will not get you the help you want.
Whispering is a tricky way to get help. Whispering a friend to get help is cool. But blind whispering guildies could have the opposite effect. Before whispering some one look at the guild list and see where they are. If they are in an instance, don’t bother them. They are not going to leave the instance to help you so you will just be bugging them. If there is a guild raid going on don’t expect a lot of help. That is where most of us will be. If they are not in an instance then it should not hurt to ask them for help. But be prepared to be turned down. And be sure to thank them wether they help you or not. Try to ask people that are already in the same zone as you need help in. That way it will be less of an imposition on them.
When whispering someone, place the fact that you’re a guild member in the message, this will more likely get them to read your request, in stead of just dismissing it.
Dos and don’ts of getting help.
Do. Ask other players of the same level for help. Who knows they may need the same quest as you do Don’t ask for help on a quest or instance that you are too low to do. This is power leveling and it is frowned on by most guild members. Don’t constantly ask the same player for help. You will where out you welcome with that player. Don’t ask for help on every quest. Do help Others
Tid Bits:
Don’t beg. It is one of the quickest ways to get yourself isolated from the rest of the guild
If you bought your character or gold, don’t tell anyone, it is cheating and is frowned upon by most players. Some players may refuse to play with you.
Power leveling is not encouraged. We earned our levels so can you.
Most of our players are not children. Even if you are a child, please don’t act like one.
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
The guild is not just a place to get free stuff from others.
